Job Description

Store Associate / Party Host

This position is about much more than selling LEGO. Our associates help create a welcoming experience for every customer who walks through our doors, keep the store looking great, process constantly-changing merchandise, help customers find what they're looking for, and help make birthday parties and special events fun and memorable.

You do not need to be a LEGO expert to apply. We will teach you what you need to know. We're looking for people who are friendly, dependable, comfortable talking with customers even when customers are rude or shy, and able to stay productive when the store gets quiet.

LEGO knowledge is a plus, but great customer service and a great attitude are required.

What You'll Do

Customer Service

Our customers come first. You'll be expected to:

  • Greet customers promptly and warmly when they enter the store.
  • Have friendly, natural conversations with customers.
  • Ask open-ended questions to learn what brings customers in.
  • Offer first-time visitors a tour of the store.
  • Help customers find merchandise.
  • Check back with customers who are browsing to see whether they need assistance.
  • Answer questions about our products and store.
  • Handle routine customer concerns and problems professionally.
  • Help create a fun, welcoming environment for LEGO fans of all ages.

You don't need a scripted personality. We want you to be yourself while treating customers with kindness, enthusiasm, and respect.

Building a Great Customer Experience

When we're not helping customers, associates work on keeping the store environment clean and welcoming. This includes:

  • Cleaning and maintaining the sales floor.
  • Vacuuming and mopping.
  • Cleaning bathrooms.
  • Cleaning glass and displays.
  • Dusting shelves and LEGO sets.
  • Restocking merchandise.
  • Organizing displays and cases.
  • Taking out trash.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the party room.
  • Keeping merchandise organized and ready for customers.

Customers are always the first priority. When the store is busy, customer service comes first. When things slow down, there is always something productive to do.

LEGO Processing & Merchandise

You'll also learn how we process LEGO that comes into the store, including:

  • Washing, drying, and sorting bulk.
  • Identifying LEGO pieces and minifigure parts.
  • Separating non-LEGO items.
  • Receiving and labeling merchandise.
  • Restocking merchandise.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory.
  • Preparing merchandise for sale.

You don't need to recognize every LEGO piece on your first day. We'll teach you how to find the information you need.

Birthday Parties & Events

Our associates help make birthday parties a great experience for our guests.

Party Host responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming party guests.
  • Explaining party rules.
  • Running the LEGO centers.
  • Keeping the party on schedule.
  • Helping children when they need assistance.
  • Cleaning up during and after the event.
  • Keeping children together and appropriately supervised.

Associates also assist with other store events, classes, scavenger hunts, and special promotions.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

๐Ÿ˜Š Friendly & Customer-Focused
You enjoy talking with people and don't wait for customers to come find you when they need help.

๐Ÿง  A Problem Solver
You can think through a situation and make a reasonable decision rather than needing someone to tell you what to do every time.

๐Ÿงฑ Willing to Learn
You don't need extensive LEGO knowledge. We're more interested in your ability and willingness to learn.

๐Ÿงน Willing to Work
This is a retail job, and yes, there is cleaning. We expect our associates to take pride in keeping the store clean, organized, and welcoming.

๐Ÿ‘€ Attentive
You notice what's happening around you. You notice when a customer needs help, when a display needs attention, or when something needs to be cleaned or organized.

๐Ÿค Dependable
You show up when you're scheduled, arrive ready to work, and follow through on your responsibilities.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Professional
You communicate respectfully with customers and coworkers and represent the store positively.

LEGO Knowledge

You don't need to be a LEGO historian to work here.

We'll teach you the basics and show you how to research the things you don't know. The important thing isn't knowing every answer. It's knowing how to find the right answer.

This Job Is a Good Fit If...

You might really enjoy this position if you:

  • Like talking to people.
  • Enjoy working with children and families.
  • Like learning new things and figuring things out.
  • Like keeping things clean and organized.
  • Notice details and take pride in your work.
  • Want to be part of a small, community-focused business.

You may not enjoy this position if you:

  • Don't like talking to strangers.
  • Want a job where you can spend most of your shift on your phone.
  • Don't want to clean or perform routine retail tasks.
  • Become frustrated when you don't immediately know the answer to something.
  • Prefer to be told exactly what to do rather than use your judgment.
  • Don't enjoy working around large groups of excited children.

The Bottom Line

We're looking for someone who will treat our customers the way we'd want to be treated ourselves.

If you're friendly, dependable, willing to learn, comfortable talking with people, and ready to work, we'd love to hear from you.

You don't have to know everything about LEGO.
